Holli's Favorite Chicken Turkey Chili
Holli’s Favorite Chicken Turkey Chili
serves four

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 pounds skinless/boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into 1 inch cubes
1/2 pound ground turkey or chicken (light or dark meat)
12 ounces spicy italian turkey sausage, casing removed
1 yellow onion, chopped
1/4 cup chili powder
1 tablespoon garlic salt
2 teaspoons cumin
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 (32 ounce) box unsalted chicken broth
2 (14.5 ounce) cans chopped fire roasted tomatoes
3 bay leaves
2 green jalapeños, slit lengthwise 3 times each
salt/pepper to taste
Garnishes (optional):
sour cream, cheddar cheese, cilantro, red onion
Place oil in large, heavy stock pot over medium heat.
Brown the thighs (in batches if necessary..do not crowd the pan or they will not brown). Remove
the thighs to a plate with slotted spoon. Leave oil and juices in pan, add ground meat and
sausage. Crumble with a spoon and brown. Remove to a plate with slotted spoon. Leave oil and
juices in pan and add onion, cook until translucent.
Add meats back into pan with onion.
Add remaining ingredients (chili powder through salt/pepper).
Simmer 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Before serving remove bay leaves and jalapeños.
Garnish with sour cream, shredded cheese, cilantro, chopped red onion if desired.
