Patriotic Trifecta

Strawberry Tequila Margarita

Serves 1

2 oz Hornitos Reposado tequila

2 oz strawberry puree (puree strawberries in a processor, press through a fine mesh strainer)

1/2 oz simple syrup *

1/2 oz fresh lime juice

salt and sugar rim (equal parts kosher salt and raw sugar)

Wet the rim of a coupe or martini glass with a wedge of lime.

Put the salt/sugar on a plate and mix together. Dip the rim of the glass into the salt/sugar.

Put the tequila, strawberry puree, simple syrup and lime juice into a shaker with ice.

Shake, shake, shake.

Strain into the glass.

*Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

Bring the sugar and water to a simmer. Let simmer and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Let cool. Store in refrigerator. Will last at least a month.

Lavender Lychee Martini

Serves 1

3 oz Tanqueray gin

1 oz lychee puree (buy a can, strain out syrup and puree)

1/2 oz lavender simple syrup *

1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

salt and sugar rim (equal parts kosher salt and raw sugar)

Wet the rim of a coupe or martini glass with a wedge of lemon.

Put the salt/sugar on a plate and mix together. Dip the rim of the glass into the salt/sugar.

Put the gin, lychee puree, lavender simple syrup and lemon juice into a shaker with ice.

Shake, shake, shake.

Strain into the glass.

*Lavender Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1 tablespoon lavender flowers

Bring the sugar and water to a simmer. Let simmer and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat, add lavender. Let sit one hour.

Strain lavender flowers out. Store in refrigerator. Will last at least a month.

Blueberry Thyme Martini

Serves 1

2 oz Grey Goose vodka

1 oz blueberry puree (puree blueberries in a processor, press through a fine mesh strainer)

1/2 oz thyme simple syrup *

1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

salt and sugar rim (equal parts kosher salt and raw sugar)

10 drops blue food coloring, optional (use if you want to make it really blue)

Wet the rim of a coupe or martini glass with a wedge of lemon.

Put the salt/sugar on a plate and mix together. Dip the rim of the glass into the salt/sugar.

Put the vodka, puree, thyme simple syrup and lemon juice into a shaker with ice.

Shake, shake, shake.

Strain into the glass.

*Thyme Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1/2 cup LOOSE thyme…on stems, not just the leaves

Bring the sugar and water to a simmer. Let simmer and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat, add thyme. Let sit one hour.

Strain thyme out. Store in refrigerator. Will last at least a month.
